Coffee and Clydesdales? Biggby in Oscoda is beloved
It wasn’t difficult to spot the line for Oscoda’s new Biggby Coffee when it opened in 2023.
“We had a really huge community response, ever since we first made the post announcing we were bringing Biggby to Oscoda,” said owner Melanie Rowden. “We were looking to bring something to town we felt was missing.”
Rowden is a transplant to the area herself, but she’s been in Oscoda since 2004. Her favorite part of living here?
“The water,” she said without hesitation. “Definitely the water.”
But there’s also the beautiful sunrises, the small-town community — and now, of course, Biggby.
Biggby Coffee is known for affordable hot, cold and iced drinks, plus bagels, donut holes and muffins. The menu includes lattes, tea, creme freezes and energy drinks; great for winter, spring, summer or fall. The shop is located by Family Fare at 5401 US-23.
Already, ownership is giving back.
“We’ve done blood pressure clinics, we’ve supported different fundraisers in the community, we’ve donated to multiple bowling tournaments, fishing tournaments, just anything happening. We’ve never turned anyone away,” Rowden said.
Some might associate the shop with clydesdales, thanks to a unique partnership that occasionally sees free wagon rides.
“There’s a locally-owned company called Glenview Clydesdales,” Rowden said. “Their granddaughter worked for us when we first opened. She talked with her grandmother and her mom and they brought them down. The first time, they were dressed up in Biggby cups. They’ll be coming three times this year instead of two.”
The business is also planning car shows in 2025.
“We couldn’t ask for a better community to be in,” Rowden said.
Biggby is open 5 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Sundays.
