Don’t miss Art on the Beach along the shores of Oscoda

As we near the end of June, a beloved annual event is preparing to return to the shores of Oscoda: Art on the Beach.

The event runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 28, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Oscoda Beach Park. It includes craft vendors, food trucks and live entertainment, according to the Oscoda AuSable Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook Page.

This year marks 41 annual celebrations of Art on the Beach, which has been “getting better every year,” the chamber wrote online. “Numerous artisans display and sell their handmade arts, crafts, and hobbies at Oscoda Beach Park, at the end of River Road in downtown Oscoda, overlooking the sandy shores of beautiful Lake Huron.”

Artists from across Oscoda, and Michigan, will display and sell handmade arts and crafts. The event only carries original artwork and items, rather than resale, and entry is open to professionals and hobbyists.

While you’re in town, don’t forget to visit some of Oscoda’s best shops: To The Moon and Back, the AuSable River Store, Twice is Nice, Cathy’s Hallmark Shop, Styled by Blake Boutique, Truly Yours, Enchanted Blooms, The Tea Corner Emporium and Gilbert’s Drug Store (and more).

Tasty treats can be found at Dairy Queen, Twist Frozen Yogurt, Parkside Dairy Shoppe, Sunrise Kava Cafe, Tait’s Bill of Fare, Office Lounge and Grill, and Edelweiss Tavern.

Oscoda Beach Park offers many convenient amenities, including seasonal bathrooms, a splash pad for small children, a skate park, a basketball court, a playground, picnic tables and charcoal grills. Much of the park is handicap accessible.

The park also features a long boardwalk, a sandy beach and a pier, where the community launches its Fourth of July fireworks. Other events hosted at the park include free weekly movies and concerts throughout the summer at the bandshell.

There are no lifeguards or a designated swimming area at Oscoda Beach Park, but the lake floor is gradually sloped and shallow for quite a distance, making it an ideal beach for families. In recent years, upgrades include the addition of a nearby Holiday Inn Express — a branded hotel unique in an area with many locally owned motels and cottages.
