Oscoda Beach Park: The Jewel of Oscoda
Ahh, northern Michigan vacations. That breath of fresh air, those beautiful forests, a dip in the lake. There’s nothing like it. But when you visit Oscoda, where, exactly, should you do your dipping?
The greater Oscoda area is home to a variety of beaches, with plenty of opportunities for fishing, swimming and fun in the sun. But it’s no secret that Oscoda Beach Park is considered the jewel of Oscoda.
Located just three blocks from downtown shopping and restaurants, Oscoda Beach Park offers many convenient amenities, including seasonal bathrooms, a splash pad for small children, a skate park, a basketball court, a playground, picnic tables and charcoal grills. Much of the park is handicap accessible.
The park also features a long boardwalk, a sandy beach and a pier, where the community launches its Fourth of July fireworks. Other events hosted at the park include free movies on Wednesday nights and free concerts on Thursday nights throughout the summer at the bandshell, plus Art on the Beach in June.
There are no lifeguards or a designated swimming area at Oscoda Beach Park, but the lake floor is gradually sloped and shallow for quite a distance, making it an ideal beach for families. In the coming years, upgrades are planned for the park, including a new parking lot and the addition of a nearby Holiday Inn Express — a branded hotel unique in an area with many locally owned motels and cottages.
Looking for something a little more private? Three Mile Beach Park is another great option. This park, extended along US-23, offers thousands of feet of sugar sand beach and multiple access points along the right side of the roadway. Simply choose the turnoff just north of downtown Oscoda that looks most inviting to you.
Each access point offers amenities, including charcoal grills, picnic tables and some restrooms — plus a beautiful view of Lake Huron on the Sunrise Side of Michigan.
No matter which park you choose, it’s gearing up to be a summer of fun in Oscoda.
