Although you’ll want to suit up in plenty of layers for a day out on the Au Sable River in the winter months, you are sure to have an adventure to remember. Ice fishing season is in full force in Oscoda. After a lost year of ice fishing in 2024 due to unseasonably warm temperatures, this year it’s game on! Ice shanties are popping up on inland lakes across the region. Make your way to Van Etten Lake, which can be accessed by the Ratliff Park boat launch or the Van Etten Lake Forrest Campground. This is the local hot spot for ice fishing where anglers catch perch, panfish, and pike.
