Start planning your winter getaway today! It may be just what you need for a reset as you begin this new year.
Snowfall or not, we think the Highbanks Trail Area is the perfect spot for a winter hike. This 7-mile multi-use trail system is set high above a bluff overlooking the AuSable River. This trail provides stunning panoramic views of the AuSable and the Cooke Dam Pond in every season of the year, so you won’t want to forget your camera. If you aren’t up for the hike, but don’t want to miss the view, take a stroll at the Lumberman’s Monument Visitors Center. You’ll find it the perfect spot to capture the spectacular views of the winter landscape.
Fat biking has quickly become a winter pastime for cycling enthusiasts that don’t want to wait out winter for big trail adventures. Eagle Run is a multi-season trail system with 3 looped trails that are maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers. 7-miles of this trail system is being groomed to accommodate fat bike riding in the winter months. With an ample 6′ width, they perfect for shared use with fat bikers, cross-country skiers and snowshoers when the snow flies. Scenic views and a beautiful natural setting make this the perfect spot for winter exploration of every sort.
Popular in all seasons throughout the year, the Corsair Trail system offers 3 looped trails perfect for your outdoor adventure. In the winter months these trails become a premier destination in our state for cross-country skiing, as it is one of the largest groomed XC skiing trail networks in Michigan, comprised of ski trail loops totaling 28.3 miles of single direction trails. Experience sunny open vistas, stands of fir trees and towering hardwoods along the edge of winding streams. If you don’t have your own skis, rentals are available at Nordic Sports Adventure Outfitters.
Now that we have convinced you to get out on our winter trails, all you have to do is pick a date, choose your spot, and head this way. Oscoda has plenty of great places to stay all winter long.
